Ischia can only be reached by sea, with ferries and hydrofoils running from Naples and Pozzuoli all year round. Here are the departure ports, the operators and a few practical tips to reach our door, in the heart of Ischia Porto.
01 From Naples: Molo Beverello and Porta di Massa
The most frequent connections leave from Naples. Hydrofoils, faster (about 50 minutes) and passengers only, depart from Molo Beverello in the city centre. Car ferries, which also take vehicles and cost less, leave from Calata Porta di Massa, right next door.
The main operators are Caremar, SNAV, Alilauro and Medmar. In high season crossings are frequent, from early morning until evening.
02 From Pozzuoli: closer, handy with a car
From Pozzuoli the crossing is shorter and is often the best choice if you arrive by car: the port is easy to reach and less congested than Naples. Ferries (Medmar, Caremar) usually take under an hour.
It is the favourite option for many travellers coming from the north who want to avoid central Naples.
03 From Naples airport and train station
The nearest airport is Naples Capodichino. From the airport and the central station, the easiest way to reach Molo Beverello is the Alibus shuttle, or a taxi.
From the port of Naples you board, and in under an hour you are in Ischia.
04 When to book and the car question
In summer it is worth booking your ticket in advance, especially if you travel with a car or at weekends. Note that Ischia applies seasonal restrictions on non-resident cars entering the island: in many cases arriving without a car is simpler.
You will find all the details on the ZTL, restrictions and parking in our dedicated guide.
05 Arriving at Ischia Porto
Almost all connections arrive at Ischia Porto, the island's main harbour. From here La Piazzetta is a few minutes on foot, in the pedestrian heart of Corso Vittoria Colonna.
