Getting around Ischia Porto by car takes a little planning: between the ZTL, seasonal restrictions and a largely pedestrian centre, knowing where to park makes all the difference. Here is a practical guide, and why the easiest option is sometimes to leave the car behind.
01 Car restrictions on the island
Ischia applies seasonal restrictions on cars entering and driving on the island, designed to ease traffic in the busiest months. The rules change from year to year and can mainly affect non-resident vehicles in high season.
That is why visitors coming for a few days often choose not to bring a car to the island.
02 The Ischia Porto ZTL
The heart of Ischia Porto, along Corso Vittoria Colonna, is a pedestrian and limited-traffic zone. It is the loveliest part to experience on foot, among shops, bars and restaurants, but it is not meant to be reached by car right up to the door.
03 Where to park
Near the port and the centre you will find blue-line (paid) street parking and some private car parks and garages. In high season spaces fill up quickly, especially in the middle of the day.
The best solution depends on how long you stay: for a few days, a garage is often the most convenient choice.
04 Reaching La Piazzetta by car
La Piazzetta is in the pedestrian centre, so you do not drive right up to the entrance. We will help you find the nearest public car park or garage, from which you can reach us on foot in a few minutes with your luggage.
05 Better without a car?
For many guests the answer is yes. The centre of Ischia Porto is easy on foot, EAV buses connect the whole island, taxis are always available, and for the more hidden coves there are taxi-boats.
Without a car you avoid the ZTL, the restrictions and the hunt for parking, and enjoy the island more lightly.
